Siem Reap, Cambodia
Siem Reap is a popular tourist destination in Southeast Asia which ranked fourth in the World’s Best Cities of Travel and Leisure survey in 2014. The weather is warm and there are many places to shop, restaurants with exotic foods to try, and ancient ruins to explore! The Khmer people are friendly and genuinely happy to share their culture with you.
Siem Reap is also known as the gateway to Angkor Wat. Angkor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The jungle, the intriguing carvings in the walls, and the mysterious architecture have made the site a popular backdrop for adventure movies. “Tomb Raider” starring Angelina Jolie was filmed there in 2001. The site is still considered sacred by the local people, so don’t be surprised to see monks meditating and even giving blessings to tourists as you explore these ancient halls!
