As Team Leader, one of your primary responsibilities is to recruit a team of interns. Please share your top two ideas for making students aware of this opportunity on campus and how they would be implemented.

One requirement as a Team Leader is to form a board of student directors (E-Board) for your chapter. VAW Global values diversity in teams and encourages Team Leaders to welcome applicants of all majors and backgrounds to their E-Board. Furthermore, ensuring that the VAW Global chapter will continue once the founding members have graduated is key. Please elaborate on how you will include breadth and depth within your E-Board.

Understanding about VAW Global

Why is VAW Global not a volunteer organization, but rather an organization based on partnerships and alliances? What do your program outreach fees support in a global/developmental context specifically?*

This is an intensive fellowship and sometimes the many responsibilities of being a student get disorganized when classes first begin - how do you ensure you stay on track with your fellowship and what techniques do you utilize to keep from getting behind?*

Sometimes, it’s almost impossible to get everything done on your to-do list. What do you do when your list of responsibilities becomes overwhelming and will not be completed by the due date?*

As a Team Leader, you will work with many interns who have different backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs, especially when it comes to visiting a foreign country for the first time. How do you assist or handle disagreements when they arise?*

VAW Global works year round, both when there are teams of interns abroad as well as during the off season to develop and strengthen all of our programs, projects and partnerships. It is very important that we follow the guidelines of global organizations such as the UN and WHO who emphasize the importance of not being a “one and done” or “voluntourism” type of organization; we have worked very hard to create sustainable, long term partnerships and have hired local staff in every single one of our countries, all of which require funding throughout the year. Therefore, intern's program fees fund VAW Global's year round operations, not only each intern's individual trip expenses. The primary objective of your Outreach Trip with VAW Global is to work alongside experienced local healthcare professionals to develop community health systems through support and capacity-building for essential and accessible health services. While the trip is open to all majors, it is important that when you recruit your team, you select interns who are serious and committed to their relevant area as well as being flexible, adaptable and, most importantly, committed to health equity. It is very important that you and your team of interns understand this IS NOT a "typical" spring break trip nor a vacation. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind that significant time must be dedicated before and during the trip in order to be well-prepared and fulfill the trip's objectives.*
